Wayne A. Burt is a southern California native who married his high school sweetheart and raised their three children on the warm beaches of Orange County, California. He began writng relatively late in life. He got hooked on audio books and young adult novels while covering a sales territory of four counties.
He received his BA degree in psycholgy, sociology, and religion from Azusa Pacific University, and his MA degree in theology and Christian education from Fuller Theological Seminary. This prepared him for a position as Associate Pastor and Youth Minister in a small church in the California Bay Area. He enjoyed the work for five years. Continuing to work with youth for many years afterward, Wayne brought his family back to southtern California to raise his family and work in sales.
He and his wife loved raising their children on the sunny beaches and the great outdoor places in the hills, deserts, and mountains. They played with and read to their children constantly. They felt a little lost when the children grew up and moved out. They missed creating life stories and reading together. It was a great time to cuddle and laugh. Their kids were raised on Richard Scary, C.S. Lewis, Laura Engles Wilder, William Steig, and L.M. Montgomery. As they grew, reading time was replaced by sporting events and rock gigs.
It was after the kids left home that Wayne discovered audio books in the library, and the great classics by Cynthia Voight, and Carolyn B. Cooney, among others. It came to him he could write stories for young people. He had a great childhood, a million adventures with his kids to draw on, and he'd worked with young people for years. When grandchildren came along with thier amazing imaginations, coming up with scenarios was no problem. All he had to do was watch and learn.
