Welcome to the Website of Wayne A. Burt, author of books for teens and children. My first book was written for my thirteen-year-old granddaughter who is outgrowing the genre much too quickly. She is an avid reader. I was not. I grew up playing sports, riding waves, fishing in the surf and in the streams of California and Utah.
So much of the joy I found in these sports was wrapped up in where we did them. We loved the remote hills, deserts, and the beautiful sunny beaches of Southern California with all the creatures that inhabit them. I've surfed with dolphins and seals, seen whales breech, watched while ospreys took fish out of the surf, and come upon bobcats snoozing in the sun. I didn't know at the time these stories would end up in my books. I didn't even know I was going to write one until I was fifty-three. You can read about it if you click on Writing Well.
Maybe you can weigh in on a friendly debate my wife and I are having. Can we correctly say we've read an audio book, or are we supposed to say, "Yes, I heard that one?" It's mostly what my wife and I do now, listen while we drive. What could be better? Someone reads me a story while I'm driving down the road. Okay, so I haven't totally grown up. No fear fellow drivers.
